How to Install the Ektron Editor (Windows)

The editor application for the Ektron system is an Active-X application (on Windows machines) or a Java applet (on Macintosh systems). It is necessary to update and edit an content in the Ektron system.

These instructions are for Windows XP or higher. See the Macintosh Instructions for installing this application on a Macintosh computer.

Windows / PC Instructions:

  1.  Open Internet Explorer. (These instructions are for Internet Explorer, though it is possible to use Firefox with the Ektron system).

  2. Disable Pop-up blocking for the Hendrix website (these instructions are for Internet Explorer 6+):
    • On the Internet Explorer menu, click on “Tools”-->”Pop-up Blocker”-->”Pop-up Blocker Settings”.
      If you are using IE 6, the “tools” menu is located on the toolbar with the “File”, “Edit”, “View”, etc. menus.
      If you are using IE 7, the “tools” menu is on the “menu” toolbar as in IE 6, and can also be accessed near the Home button, next to an icon that looks like a gear.
    • In the “Pop-up Blocker Settings” window, type “www.hendrix.edu” into the “Address of website to allow” box, and click the “Add” button. “www.hendrix.edu” should now appear in the “Allowed Sites” list.
    • Click the “Close” button.
    • If you have the Google or Yahoo Toolbars installed, you must also allow pop-ups from www.hendrix.edu. Check the help files of your toolbar for instructions.

  3. Go to http://www.hendrix.edu/login.aspx and login to the Ektron system. Once you are logged in, click on the “Workarea” button to open the workarea.

  4. Install the Ektron DMS400 Asset Control:
    • A window may pop-up that says “Ektron DMS400 Automatic Download and Installation”.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the window and click “Install”.
    • You may see the info-bar appear at the top of the window saying “This site might require the following ActiveX control: ‘DMS400’ from ‘Ektron Inc.’. Click here to install…”. If this happens, click on the bar and select “Install ActiveX Control”.
    • You will next see a window called “Internet Explorer – Security Warning”. Make sure that the “Name” is “DMS400” and the “Publisher” is “Ektron Inc”. Click Install.
    • When the “Ektron Asset Control” appears in the box on the page, click the “Close” button.

  5. Click on the “Content” tab on the bottom-right corner of the Workarea, and navigate to one of your web folders.

  6. Click on the title of any of your content items in your folder to view the content, then click the “edit” button that looks like a pen over a piece of paper.

  7. Install the eWebEditPro with WebImageFX editor:
    • A window will pop-up that says “eWebEditPro with WebImageFX Automatic Download and Installation”.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the window and click “Install Now”.
    • You may see the info-bar appear at the top of the window saying “This site might require the following ActiveX control: ‘WebImageFX’ from ‘Ektron Inc.’. Click here to install…”. If this happens, click on the bar and select “Install ActiveX Control”.
    • You will next see a window called “Internet Explorer – Security Warning”. Make sure that the “Name” is “WebImageFX” and the “Publisher” is “Ektron Inc”. Click Install.
    • You may see the info-bar appear at the top of the window saying “This site might require the following ActiveX control: ‘eWebEditPro’ from ‘Ektron Inc.’. Click here to install…”. If this happens, click on the bar and select “Install ActiveX Control”.
    • You will next see a window called “Internet Explorer – Security Warning”. Make sure that the “Name” is “eWebEditPro” and the “Publisher” is “Ektron Inc”. Click Install.
    • When you see the “WebImageFX client installed” and “eWebEditPro client installed” messages, the window will close itself.

  8. You are now upgrade to the newest editor software.
