Life at Hendrix
Hendrix students stay active long after lectures and labs are over for the day. Student activities keep students' calendars full with events and programs for the whole community.

When new students move in, Orientation begins. It's an exciting (and exhausting) week that gets first-year students ready for life at Hendrix.
From awesome trips and entertaining awareness programs like Choices 101 to Pizza Wars and Playfair, Orientation is one of the highlights of the Hendrix experience. Meet your academic advisor and make friends across campus at events like Bowling and Skate Night, Movie Night, Casino Night and Coffeehouse. The climax of Welcome Week is Shirttails, a dance competition between all first-year students living in the residence halls and a long-standing Hendrix tradition, and a concert sponsored by KHDX, Hendrix's student-run radio station.

Here's what goes on at Hendrix during New Student Orientation.
Hendrix students take part in more than 70 student clubs and organizations, representing everything from academic areas and activism to service, social justice, and special interests.
Hendrix offers a wide variety of student organizations. From Ultimate Frisbee to Campus Kitty, it's easy for students to find something that sparks their interests.
ECC encourages the campus community to be more environmentally friendly with activities such as the Free Store, organic garden, glass recycling and many other eco-friendly projects throughout the year.
The Hendrix Climbing Coalition is for students of any experience or skill level who are interested in rock climbing. The group uses the climbing wall in the Wellness and Athletics Center to practice and sponsors trips to rock climbing destinations in the nearby Ozark Mountains.
The Outdoor Club organizes camping, canoeing, hiking, and other outdoor activities for Hendrix students to experience the natural beauty of Arkansas.
The Culinary Club cooks a variety of ethnic and local food meals during the year and provides professional-level catering for campus events.
Signing is Gabbing Noiselessly (S.I.G.N.) hosts weekly activities and programs to promote and teach sign language.
When you talk about Hendrix, it's like you're speaking another language.
For example, Campus Kitty is NOT a feline mascot. It's a student-organized series of fun campus events that has raised thousands of dollars for local charities for more than 65 years!
And Shirttails is NOT a fashion show. It's the oldest student tradition at Hendrix. Every fall for more than 100 years, Hendrix students enjoy a little friendly residence hall rivalry … in a dance competition. While Shirttails has evolved since it started spontaneously after a home football victory, the uniform is essentially same: tennis shoes, shorts/boxers, and of course, a white, long-sleeve Oxford button-down shirt and tie.
Birthdays are big deal too. See how we celebrate your special day at Hendrix.
There's also the elusive cafeteria disco tray, Finals Rave, Foam Party, Ghost Roast, Miss Hendrix, SoCo 54, "studying" on Veasey Beach, and Toga.
One of the most beloved Hendrix student traditions, Shirttails is still going strong 100 years after it began, spontaneously, when the Hendrix football team beat Ole Miss 8-6 in Conway.
From sing-alongs to fun in the fountain, birthdays are special at Hendrix.
