Spanish Major - Planning

Course planning advice here is limited to majors. For a full description of degree requirements, please see this overview of the Academic Program and refer to the Catalog for details and official rules. Any discrepancy between the Course Planning Pages and the Catalog will be resolved in favor of the Catalog.

Possible Degree Path – starting in the first year. The following is a typical major plan. This is not the only way forward. Please consult with your advisor to create your unique path.

1-2 courses at the 300- or 400 – level (400 requires consent of professor)

Junior

2 -4 courses at the 300- or 400 – level

Senior

2-3 courses at the 300- or 400 – level

Comprehensive Exam (spring)

Planning Recommendations:

  • Students are strongly urged to spend a year outside of the U.S. in a study-abroad program sponsored by Hendrix or another institution. Please consult your faculty advisor in the appropriate target language and location.
  • Language majors considering graduate study are strongly encouraged to take at least the Basic Sequence, typically the 110 and 120 course numbers, in another language.
