The
Hendrix College Mock Trial team recently attended the Mississippi State
Regional Mock Trial Tournament Competition where they competed in four rounds
against other schools from around the country. Payden McGann ‘28 earned an
award for Outstanding Performance with 19 ranks, the most at the competition.
The
mock trial team this year is comprised of 12 students: Gracie Ross ‘26, Malcom
Rose ‘25, Natalie Vailes '26, Jana Eid '28, Payden McGann '28, Helaina Ballis
'27, Britton Sechrist '27, Roosevelt Whetstone '28, Rebecca Corona '28, Madison
Roberts '27, Beckett McCaslin '28, and Vic Welky '27.
The
team is captained by Gracie Ross ‘26 and Malcom Rose ‘25. They are currently
searching for more passionate and hardworking students to join the club next
year.
“Hendrix
Mock Trial Association is one of the best resources on campus for students who
want to attend law school after Hendrix,” said Ross. “It's an incredible way to
build public speaking and critical thinking skills. Our team consistently wins
awards at competitions, but most importantly, we learn a lot and have a lot of
fun.”
Every
year, the mock trial team receives a case book from the American Mock Trial
Association, which they use to build their own cases, work with the Rules of
Evidence, and develop their trial advocacy skills. They take their case to two
competitions yearly with hopes of performing well enough at regionals to
qualify for national competition.
Students
interested in participating in mock trial in the future can follow the group on
Instagram at @hdxmocktrial or contact Gracie Ross at rosslg@hendrix.edu.
