| a devised performance” at Hendrix College’s Cabe Theatre March 5-7 at 7:30
p.m. and March 8 at 2 p.m. Admission is free for the public, but reservations

“(title) Unknown | a devised performance” is
directed and co-created by Murphy Visiting Theatre Director Katherine Tanner
Silverman. The production is performed by the student theatre company, the
Hendrix Players, which was founded in the 1930s. It is co-sponsored by the
Hendrix Department of Theatre Arts and Dance and the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation.

Written collaboratively by the crew, cast,
and director, the production showcases a style called devised theatre, which
uses the memory to develop performance material to guide the development of the
script.
“The performance is sure to be imaginative
and thought-provoking,” said Theatre Arts and Dance Department Chair Antonio
Horne.
Hendrix Players are working to bring the
production to life with their unique viewpoints and talents. Actors are Jadyn
Blevins of Little Rock; Seth Fortune of Conway; CQ Gintz of Memphis, Tenn.;
Juno Hartwig of Tulsa, Okla.; Charlie Livingston of Washington, D.C.; Cora
Mattson of Conway; Jake Nurkin of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Audrey Young of
Mountain Home, who is also the production’s lead sound designer. Production
stage manager is Sene Harness of Little Rock, and props artisan is Jorie Lien
of North Little Rock.
“This devised performance is about existing
in a liminal space between time and home,” said Katherine Tanner Silverman.
“The text, imagery, and music in the show are inspired by the students'
personal stories… The use of shadow, masks and physical storytelling methods
are sure to have audiences reminisce upon their own experience transitioning
from a home with family into an unknown world of independence and questioning
the truth of one's identity.”
Tanner Silverman has embraced a Renaissance
theatre career holding various positions including director, education manager,
instructor, actor and producer. She holds an M.F.A. in European devised performance
from Columbia College Chicago, a program which included 10 months of intensive
study with Arthaus-Berlin in Germany. Currently, Tanner Silverman is founder
and artistic director of Mentalhaus, a Chicago-based, ensemble-driven devised
theatre company creating embodied work rooted in themes of mental health.
