President Karen Petersen joins Conway Chamber board

Dr. Karen Petersen fills a two-year term to expire Dec. 2026.

KP cropHendrix College President Karen Petersen has joined the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for a two-year term expiring in Dec. 2026. The 38-member board represents the vast membership of the Chamber, which includes more than 1,400 businesses and organizations.

As the largest business organization in north-central Arkansas, its board of directors has guided the mission and functions of the Chamber since 1891. The Chamber's history is deeply intertwined with the city's growth. Alongside its sister organization, the Conway Development Corporation, the Chamber has played a key role in driving the community’s economic success.

“The Chamber of Commerce was founded to help recruit Hendrix College to Conway, and the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to the city and its colleges provides a unique environment for collaboration. It is an honor to work alongside other local leaders to strengthen our community by facilitating economic development that improves Conway for all of its residents,” said Petersen.

Directors are chosen to represent their organization within the community based on both the organization’s standing and the individual’s leadership and influence. They are asked to bring their perspectives to all discussions and decision-making processes. The makeup of the board reflects that of the membership, and the viewpoints of directors are important to the success of the Chamber.

“We are excited to have President Karen Petersen of Hendrix College as a member of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce Board,” said Brad Lacy, Chamber president and CEO. “Her leadership, vision, and commitment to education and community growth will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to foster a vibrant and thriving environment for businesses and residents alike. We look forward to working alongside her to continue building opportunities in Conway.”
