An exhibition of nature artwork by K-12 students from across Arkansas.
For this year’s youth art exhibition,
Observing Nature, young people from around the state created art inspired
by the heartfelt work of Mississippi artist Walter Anderson. K-12 scholars were
asked to create and submit artworks which focused on observations of the
natural world – plants, animals, and landscapes – just like Anderson used to
do.
This exhibition season at the Windgate Museum of Art features
The South’s Most Illusive Artist, Walter Inglis Anderson, a collection
of 40 works by this American artist, on loan from the Walter Anderson Museum of
Art (WAMA) in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. In honor of this exhibition, the call
for entries included information on Anderson and links to WAMA’s website to
help inspire artists and provide instructional materials for teachers hoping to
encourage their scholars.
Students whose work was selected for display were honored at
an opening reception Feb. 1 at the Windgate. The call for entries garnered 600
individual student submissions by teachers, parents, and the students
themselves from across the state. The Observing Nature exhibition
features 107 pieces on display in the Windgate’s Window Gallery, viewable from
outside the museum 24 hours a day starting in January through early May.
The South’s Most Illusive Artist, Walter Inglis Anderson exhibition is on
display in the Windgate’s Neely Gallery through April 5.
Hendrix
College and the Windgate congratulate all the talented young people whose work
is on display in Observing
Nature.
