CONWAY, Ark. (September 13, 2024) — Hendrix College’s Class of 2028 has 16% more students than the previous year’s entering class, with the new matriculants selected from among 3,165 applications submitted — the highest number of applicants in Hendrix history.

Hendrix welcomed 340 new students to campus on Move-in Day, Tuesday, August 20. Following a week of orientation activities, classes began on August 27; Wednesday of this week marked Census Day, the eleventh day of class, when start-of-year statistics are finalized.

“We are pleased to welcome a diverse, engaged group of young adults to Hendrix College,” said Hendrix President Karen Petersen. “While the significant increase in class size is worth celebrating, I am most excited about participating in each student’s personalized experience as they spend four years preparing to lead lives of accomplishment, integrity, service, and joy.”

Class of 2028 highlights:

  • The academic profile for the entering class includes an average GPA of 3.76 and an average ACT composite score of 27.
  • Among the 340 matriculants, 48 reported that they are first-generation college students, and just over 30% of new students indicated that they are members of underrepresented groups.
  • 54% of first-year students are from Arkansas; 14 other states are represented, with 25% from Texas, 15 students each from Oklahoma and Tennessee, and international matriculants from five other countries (Bangladesh, Colombia, Kenya, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom).
  • More than one-third (34%) of new students are Pell Grant recipients.
  • Twenty-three new students have a parent, sibling, or other relative who previously attended Hendrix.
  • Domestically, the longest new student trip to campus was 1,443 miles, from Diamond Bar, California; Internationally, the longest was 8,429 miles. Others made local moves, with 24 students from Conway choosing Hendrix.
