College greeted 340 first-year and transfer students for
2024-25 year

CONWAY, Ark.
(September 13, 2024) — Hendrix College’s Class of 2028 has 16% more students
than the previous year’s entering class, with the new matriculants selected
from among 3,165 applications submitted — the highest number of applicants in
Hendrix history.
Hendrix
welcomed 340 new students to campus on Move-in Day, Tuesday, August 20.
Following a week of orientation activities, classes began on August 27; Wednesday
of this week marked Census Day, the eleventh day of class, when start-of-year
statistics are finalized.
“We are pleased
to welcome a diverse, engaged group of young adults to Hendrix College,” said Hendrix
President Karen Petersen. “While the significant increase in class size is
worth celebrating, I am most excited about participating in each student’s
personalized experience as they spend four years preparing to lead lives of
accomplishment, integrity, service, and joy.”
Class of 2028
highlights:
- The academic
profile for the entering class includes an average GPA of 3.76 and an average ACT
composite score of 27.
- Among the 340
matriculants, 48 reported that they are first-generation college students, and just
over 30% of new students indicated that they are members of underrepresented
groups.
- 54% of
first-year students are from Arkansas; 14 other states are represented, with
25% from Texas, 15 students each from Oklahoma and Tennessee, and international
matriculants from five other countries (Bangladesh, Colombia, Kenya, United
Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom).
- More than
one-third (34%) of new students are Pell Grant recipients.
- Twenty-three
new students have a parent, sibling, or other relative who previously attended
Hendrix.
- Domestically,
the longest new student trip to campus was 1,443 miles, from Diamond Bar,
California; Internationally, the longest was 8,429 miles. Others made local
moves, with 24 students from Conway choosing Hendrix.
- Collectively,
the class’s favorite candies are KitKat, M&Ms, Nerds, and Sour Patch Kids; Spider-man
Into the Spiderverse, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Tangled are among their
favorite movies.
This year’s total
enrollment sits at 1,111, slightly up from last year’s total of 1,107.
