Health Science (HESC) is an interdisciplinary major designed to prepare students for a career in a health-related profession. To this end, the major includes courses in basic science and Human Anatomy and Physiology, as well as Introductory Psychology and Statistics. Each student can also select classes that fit with their field of interest, including Biology of Movement, Exercise Physiology, Introduction to Athletic Injuries, Nutrition, and Health Psychology.
In addition to the standard course work, the HESC curriculum emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience in the health-care field of a student’s choice. Thus, each HESC major is required to either complete an internship through the Office of Career Services or conduct research.
Completion of the HESC major course requirements and internship or research experience prepares our students to meet the needs of the 21st century health delivery system. Our majors will also be well positioned to apply to graduate programs in health science, including physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic trainer, dentistry, pharmacy, and public health.
