Largest new
student class in seven years to
begin fall 2022 semester

CONWAY,
Ark. (August 17, 2022) – Hendrix College welcomed more than 370 new students to
campus on Move-in Day, Tuesday, August 16.
The
Class of 2026 is the largest class of new students at Hendrix in seven years,
Hendrix College President W. Ellis Arnold III ’79 said.
“We
are thrilled to welcome this remarkable class to the Hendrix community,” Arnold
said. “Nothing compares to the excitement of the start of the academic year,
and we cannot wait to see these talented students learn and grow during their
four years at Hendrix.”
Interest
in Hendrix from prospective students and families has never been higher, he added.
This year, Hendrix received a record high number of applicants for the fall
semester (2,801 this year versus 2,445 the year before).
Members
of the new class come from 23 states in the U.S. and multiple countries,
including Bolivia, Lebanon, and Rwanda.
Demographic
highlights of the Class of 2026
- Academic profile includes an average GPA of 3.84 and an
ACT average of 28.
- 72 are first
generation college students, and 27.4% of first-year students come from
underrepresented groups.
- 51 are Hendrix
legacy students (those with a parent, sibling, or other relative who previously
attended Hendrix).
- Domestically, the longest trip to campus was 1,652 miles.
Internationally, it was 8,121 miles.
- The class’s favorite color is blue; favorite holidays
are Christmas and Halloween; the favorite movie is Interstellar; and
their favorite candy/snack is popcorn.
New
students will participate in a variety of orientation activities through this
weekend, and classes for the Fall 2022 semester begin Tuesday, August 22.
