The message below was sent Saturday, May 30, 2020, to Hendrix College faculty, staff, and current students.
Dear Hendrix community members,
The death of George Floyd in Minnesota is horrific and
heartbreaking to us all but especially to our students and our community. It
reminds us that the dialogue we began on campus this year is important and
essential.
As we continue to strive to make Hendrix a more inclusive
community, I want to thank the faculty, staff, and student leaders who have
worked so hard this year to uphold the values in our Statement of Purpose and Statement on Diversity and our commitment to students.
Though distance has not made our work easier, we must express
our concern and demonstrate our support of our students and our community, not
just with statements on paper, but with acts of genuine love and support during
this difficult time.
I am grateful to our faculty and staff members who are now
reaching out to our students and to each other to listen and offer support as
we try and make real through our actions our unwavering commitment to the true
character, ideals, and spirit of Hendrix.
Sincerely,
W. Ellis Arnold III ’79
