Information and
resources for the Hendrix community during inclement weather
CONWAY,
Ark. (January 11, 2024) — With the possibility of extreme temperatures and inclement
winter weather, please remember the information below. Thanks in advance to our Public Safety, Facilities, and
Dining Services teams for keeping campus safe, warm, and fed.
Inclement Weather Policy (from the 2023-24 catalog)
As a result of inclement
weather, the College may alter its regular operations as follows:
- Late opening/closing. Offices will operate at
hours other than normal; classes will be held only within the announced time period for office operation.
- Campus closed. Only essential
administrative and staff personnel will be on campus. Offices will be closed,
and classes will be cancelled.
Notification will be provided as early as possible through H-Alert,
campus email, and Hendrix social media.
Classes
- Classes
will be cancelled if campus is closed (see Inclement Weather Policy above).
- If
campus is not closed, faculty will have the choice of whether to travel to
campus and teach in person, remain at home and
teach remotely, or cancel class. Faculty
will need to notify their students about how they will proceed with their
classes, especially if they will be teaching remotely or canceling class.
Staff
- For employees whose job does not allow you to work
remotely, you must certainly use your own judgment in determining whether the
conditions are safe enough for you to travel. If the decision is made to close,
all employees who are scheduled
to work will be paid for each day (or partial day) we are officially closed. If the College
is open, and you cannot make it to work remotely, you may choose to use a
vacation day to get paid. However, no sick days will be authorized for use. Please note that if the College closes and you are on vacation status, your time will automatically be counted as vacation (i.e., you cannot change your status to save a vacation day if you had already scheduled vacation time).
- There are some employees whose skills/duties will be
required even if the College is closed. These employees are
considered to be “essential staff.” If you are considered essential staff,
your supervisor will have already addressed any requirements with you
individually. Please do not hesitate to ask your supervisor if you are
considered “essential staff.”
Other
- Please
be aware of current conditions and use caution. If
you need assistance from Hendrix Public Safety, call 501-450-7711.
- If
inclement weather occurs, Dining Services may close early to allow staff to get
home safely.
- There
is a free severe weather and emergency notification service available for
Faulkner County. The “CodeRed” warning system will send voice and/or text
messages in the event of severe weather or other city and county emergencies.
This service can be accessed and subscribed to at www.faulknercounty.org (go to “Useful Links”
